Our take on the Comfort Pure Natural All Cotton Shiki Futon Mattress

The Comfort Pure Natural All Cotton Shiki Futon is a Japanese-style floor mattress filled with layered cotton batting and covered in cotton, sized 84 by 76 inches to fit a California King footprint. It has no firm core, so it is meant for floor sleeping or as a soft topper rather than a stand-alone bed on a bi-fold frame. It is machine-made and meets US fire retardant standards. It holds 4.5 out of 5 from 36 ratings.

Questions and answers

Is this futon firm enough to sleep on directly on the floor?
It is soft, with no firm core, so most sleepers use it on a tatami mat, rug or firm surface. Side and stomach sleepers may find it too yielding; back sleepers often find it fine.
Will it fit a bi-fold futon frame?
No. Comfort Pure does not recommend it for bi-fold futon frames. It is designed as a shiki futon for floor use or as a topper.
What size is it?
It measures 84 inches long by 76 inches wide, which matches a California King footprint in length and a King in width.
Does the cotton fill compress over time?
Yes. Cotton batting settles with use, so plan to turn and air it regularly and expect the loft to flatten gradually.
Is it machine washable?
The cotton cover and batting are not designed for machine washing. Spot clean and air it out instead.
What is in the box?
The futon mattress only. No foundation, frame or storage bag is included.
