Our take on the Costway Single Sit-on-Top Kayak 0ne Person Kayak Boat W/ Detachable Aluminum Paddle

The Costway Single Sit-on-Top Kayak is a one-person recreational kayak made from LLDPE plastic, with a V-chine hull, a four-position adjustable footrest, a large backrest and a bungee cargo area. It ships with a detachable aluminum paddle, so it is a ready-to-paddle package for calm lakes, ponds and slow rivers. Its 287 lb maximum weight suits most adult paddlers. It is a budget, entry-level boat rather than a touring kayak.

Questions and answers

Is this kayak worth it for a beginner?
Yes, for calm lakes and ponds. It is stable, self-draining and comes with a paddle, so the total cost is low. Expect a heavier, less refined boat than pricier brands.
How much weight can it hold?
The listed maximum is 287 lb, which covers most adults plus a small dry bag. Keep gear light and centered to preserve stability.
Does the paddle come in the box?
Yes. The box includes the kayak and one detachable, adjustable aluminum paddle. A pump, PFD and seat cushion are not included.
Is it stable enough to stand or fish from?
It is stable for seated paddling, but the narrow sit-on-top deck is not made for standing. Fish seated and keep weight low.
How does it compare with an inflatable kayak?
This hard-shell is more rigid and tracks better, but it is heavier and needs roof or truck transport. An inflatable packs into a car but flexes more.
When is the price likely lowest?
Costway kayaks tend to drop in late spring sales and end-of-summer clearance. Check the price history before buying in early summer.
