Our take on the Cuisinart 15 Piece German Stainless Steel Hollow Handle Cutlery Block Set

The Cuisinart 15-Piece German Stainless Steel Hollow Handle Cutlery Block Set is a full kitchen knife set built around German stainless steel blades and hollow handles, sold with a wooden storage block. The 15 pieces cover the everyday jobs: chef's knife, bread knife, slicer, utility and paring knives, steak knives and kitchen shears. It is a budget-to-midrange set aimed at households that want one complete block rather than buying knives one at a time.

Pros
  • German stainless steel blades hold a usable edge for home cooking
  • Hollow handles keep the knives light and balanced
  • 15 pieces cover slicing, chopping, paring, steak and shears
  • Block keeps the set organized on the counter
  • Cuisinart brand with wide service and parts availability
Cons
  • Hollow handles can feel less solid than full-tang forged knives
  • Not dishwasher-safe in practice; hand washing keeps edges and handles intact
  • Steak knives and shears are the weakest pieces in most sets like this
  • Blade steel is not specified in detail, so edge retention is average

Questions and answers

Is this set worth it for a first kitchen?
Yes, if you want one purchase that covers chopping, slicing, bread, paring and steak. The trade-off is that the steel and handles are ordinary, so expect to hone the blades regularly.
How does it compare with a forged full-tang set?
Forged full-tang knives feel heavier and more solid and usually hold an edge longer, but they cost more. This set wins on price and completeness rather than durability.
Are the knives dishwasher safe?
Hand washing is the safer choice. Dishwasher heat and detergent dull edges and can wear the hollow handles and block over time.
What is included in the 15 pieces?
Expect an 8-inch chef's knife, 8-inch slicer, bread knife, utility knife, paring knife, six steak knives, kitchen shears and a sharpening steel, plus the block. Check the listing's piece list before buying, since bundle contents vary.
Is the block included?
Yes. The set ships with a wooden storage block that holds the knives and shears.
When is the best time to buy it?
Watch for holiday and back-to-school sales, when block sets are commonly discounted. Compare the current price against its recent range before buying.
