Is 3.5 cu ft big enough for two people?

Yes for a couple buying frozen goods weekly. It holds roughly 120 lb, which is about a month of frozen food for two. A family of four will likely want 5 cu ft or more.

Does it need to be defrosted?

Yes. It is manual defrost, so ice builds up over months and you empty it and let it thaw. Defrost when frost reaches about a quarter inch.

Can it go in a garage?

Danby rates this model for garage use in moderate climates. Avoid unheated garages that drop below freezing or climb above 110°F, since the thermostat can't hold temperature there.

What comes in the box?

The freezer and one removable wire basket. No ice scraper or drain hose is included, so plan on a towel and a plastic scraper for defrosting.

Is it worth it over a small upright freezer?

If you want the lowest price and don't mind lifting the lid, yes. An upright is easier to organize and defrost but costs more for the same capacity.

Chest freezers tend to dip during late-summer clearance and Black Friday sales. Watch the price history and buy when it is near its recent low.
