Are these bright enough to light stairs?

No. At about 3 lumens each they mark the edge of a step but won't illuminate it. Treat them as accents or safety markers, not lighting.

Do they need direct sunlight?

Yes. The small solar panel needs several hours of direct sun to charge the battery for a night's run. In heavy shade or on a north-facing rail they will fade early.

They have a built-in light sensor and come on automatically at dusk, then off at dawn. There is no app or remote.

How are they mounted?

They attach with the included adhesive or screws, depending on the surface. Flat, clean deck boards and railings work best.

Are they weatherproof?

They are built for outdoor use in an ABS housing, but budget solar lights can take on water over time. Heavy rain and freezing conditions shorten their life.

When is the best time to buy?

Outdoor solar lighting tends to be discounted in late summer and around holiday sales. Check the price history before buying a multi-pack.

Our take on the DAYBETTER Solar Deck Lights 16 Pack

These are 16 small solar step lights that mount on deck edges, stairs and railings and switch on automatically at dusk. Each one puts out about 3 lumens of warm white (3000K) light from a red ABS housing, so they mark a path rather than light it. The 16-pack keeps the per-light cost low, which is the main reason to buy them. They are a budget accent light, not a substitute for wired deck lighting.
