Is the DeWalt DW788 worth it?

For detailed woodwork, yes. It is one of the smoother, quieter 20-inch scroll saws, and the 4.6 rating from 694 buyers backs that up. If you mostly cut thick hardwood, a more powerful saw may suit you better.

What is the difference between the DW788 and the DeWalt 20-inch variable-speed scroll saw?

They are the same saw. DeWalt sells the 20-inch variable-speed model under the DW788 name, so specs and warranty match.

How fast does it cut?

Speed adjusts from 400 to 1,750 strokes per minute. Lower speeds suit plastic and fine detail; higher speeds suit softwood.

What is the maximum cutting depth and throat size?

It cuts up to 2 inches deep at 90 degrees and has a 20-inch throat, so it handles wide panels and long curves.

Does it come with a blade and a stand?

A blade is included. A stand is not, so plan on a bench or a separate stand.
