Our take on the DeWalt 20V MAX Cordless Combo Kit and 20V Cordless 5 in. Random Orbit Sander

This is a DeWalt 20V MAX bundle: a five-piece cordless combo kit plus a separate 20V 5 in. random orbit sander. The combo kit typically covers a drill/driver, impact driver, reciprocating saw, circular saw and work light, all sharing DeWalt's 20V MAX lithium-ion batteries. The sander adds a finishing tool for paint prep, furniture and trim work. Bundles like this usually price below buying the tools separately, so check the current best price against the kit's recent range before buying.

Pros
  • One 20V MAX battery platform across all six tools
  • Covers drilling, driving, cutting and sanding in one purchase
  • Lithium-ion batteries hold charge well between uses
  • DeWalt's 20V MAX line has wide accessory and battery availability
  • Random orbit sander handles paint removal and finish sanding
Cons
  • Kit batteries are usually compact, so heavy cutting drains them fast
  • Circular and reciprocating saws in combo kits are often the entry-level versions
  • Sander is a separate item, so confirm which batteries and charger the kit includes
  • Charger and bag add bulk if you already own DeWalt gear

What reviewers say

Owners of DeWalt 20V MAX combo kits generally praise the drill and impact driver and the convenience of shared batteries. Common complaints are that kit batteries are small for saw work and that the included saws are basic models. The 5 in. random orbit sander is widely liked for its dust collection and smooth finish, though it is heavier than some rivals.

Pros
  • Drill and impact driver feel strong for their size
  • Batteries interchange across the whole 20V MAX line
  • Sander leaves a smooth finish with good dust pickup
  • Tools hold up well for regular home and jobsite use
Cons
  • Compact batteries run down quickly in the circular and reciprocating saws
  • Kit saws are basic, not the premium brushless versions
  • Sander is on the heavy side for overhead work
  • Some kits ship with a slow charger

Questions and answers

Is this bundle worth it over buying the tools separately?
Usually yes. Combo kits discount the tools and include batteries and a charger, and adding the sander in one purchase often beats separate buys. Compare the current bundle price with the sum of the individual tools.
Which tools are in the five-piece combo kit?
DeWalt's five-piece 20V MAX kits typically include a drill/driver, impact driver, reciprocating saw, circular saw and a work light, plus batteries and a charger. Confirm the exact tool list on the kit label, since DeWalt varies the contents between kit numbers.
Does the sander use the same batteries as the combo kit?
Yes. The 5 in. random orbit sander runs on DeWalt 20V MAX lithium-ion batteries, the same packs used by the combo kit tools.
How long do the batteries last?
Compact 20V MAX packs run the drill and impact driver for a good while but drain quickly in the circular and reciprocating saws. For sustained saw work, plan on larger capacity batteries.
What size sanding discs does the sander take?
It uses 5 in. hook-and-loop sanding discs, available in grits from coarse to fine at most hardware stores.
When is the best time to buy this bundle?
DeWalt combo kits see their deepest discounts around Black Friday, Father's Day and end-of-year clearance. Track the price history and buy when the bundle drops below its usual range.
