Our take on the DeWalt 20V MAX Hammer Drill/Impact Kit with 12 in. Brushless Cordless Chainsaw

This is a two-tool DeWalt 20V MAX combo: a brushless hammer drill/driver and a 12-inch brushless cordless chainsaw, sold with multiple 20V batteries. The brushless motors on both tools mean longer runtime and less maintenance than brushed versions. It suits buyers who want one battery platform for drilling masonry and cutting light firewood or limbs. No price was provided for this listing, so check the current best price against other DeWalt 20V kit listings before buying.

Best forHomeowners on the DeWalt 20V platformLight storm cleanup and limb trimmingMasonry and concrete drilling plus yard workBuyers who want one battery system for two tools
Pros
  • Brushless motors on both tools for efficiency and longer life
  • Shared 20V MAX batteries work across DeWalt's large lineup
  • 12-inch bar handles limbs and small logs without a gas saw
  • Hammer mode adds masonry drilling to the drill/driver
  • Two tools in one purchase cuts the cost of buying separately
Cons
  • 12-inch bar limits the chainsaw to light cutting, not felling big trees
  • Chainsaw runtime depends on battery size; big packs add weight
  • Kit batteries may be smaller capacity than a dedicated saw kit
  • Hammer drills are heavier than plain drill/drivers for overhead work
  • No price given here, so value versus separate purchases is unclear

Pros
  • Batteries interchange across many DeWalt tools
  • Brushless chainsaw starts instantly and needs no gas mixing
  • Hammer drill handles concrete and masonry well
  • Solid build quality for job-site and home use
Cons
  • Chainsaw is underpowered for larger logs
  • Chainsaw drains batteries quickly under heavy cutting
  • Some kits ship with lower-capacity batteries
  • Chainsaw chain tensioning and oiling need regular attention

Questions and answers

Is this kit worth it over buying the drill and chainsaw separately?
Usually yes if you need both tools and have no 20V batteries. Compare the kit price with the cost of the bare drill, bare chainsaw and two batteries bought separately.
What can the 12-inch chainsaw actually cut?
Limbs, small logs and light firewood, roughly up to 10 inches in diameter. It is not meant for felling large trees or sustained heavy cutting.
How long does the chainsaw run on a charge?
Runtime depends on battery capacity and wood size. Expect a handful of cuts per charge with a compact pack and considerably more with a 5Ah or larger battery.
Do the batteries fit other DeWalt 20V MAX tools?
Yes. The 20V MAX batteries work across DeWalt's 20V MAX cordless lineup, including drills, saws and outdoor tools.
What is included in the box?
The kit includes the hammer drill/driver, the 12-inch brushless chainsaw, batteries and a charger. Confirm the exact battery count and capacity on the listing before ordering.
When is the best time to buy this kit?
DeWalt kits see the deepest discounts around Black Friday, Father's Day and end-of-season outdoor tool sales. Track the price history and buy below the recent typical range.
