Our take on the DeWalt 20V MAX Lithium-Ion Cordless Combo Kit and 20V MAX XR Brushless Compact Router with 2.0 Ah Battery

A DeWalt 20V MAX bundle: a five-piece cordless combo kit plus the 20V MAX XR brushless compact router, all sharing one 20V MAX lithium-ion battery platform. The router's brushless motor and the shared batteries are the draw for anyone already in DeWalt's 20V line. No price was given for this bundle, so compare it against buying the combo kit and router separately before you commit.

Pros
  • One 20V MAX battery platform across all six tools
  • Brushless motor in the XR compact router for longer runtime and less maintenance
  • Compact router suits edge profiles, roundovers and light plunge work
  • Combo kits usually cost less than buying each tool separately
  • Lithium-ion batteries hold charge between jobs
Cons
  • Bundled batteries are typically small capacity, so heavy cutting drains them fast
  • Combo kit tools are usually the entry-level brushed versions, not XR
  • Router bits are not included with the router
  • No price listed here, so the bundle's value is unverified
  • Six tools plus charger and batteries is a lot to store

Questions and answers

Is this bundle worth it over buying the tools separately?
Only if the combined price beats the five-piece combo kit plus the router bought on their own. Check both totals before buying, since bundle pricing varies by store.
Do the combo kit batteries work in the router?
Yes. Both use DeWalt's 20V MAX lithium-ion batteries, so the kit packs power the router and the router's 2.0 Ah pack fits the kit tools.
What comes in the box?
The five-piece 20V MAX combo kit with its batteries and charger, plus the XR brushless compact router with a 2.0 Ah battery. Router bits are sold separately.
Is the router brushless?
Yes. The XR compact router has a brushless motor, which gives longer runtime per charge and avoids brush replacement.
When is this bundle cheapest?
DeWalt combo kits and bundles tend to drop around Black Friday, Father's Day and end-of-season tool sales. Track the price history and buy when it sits near its low.
