Our take on the DeWalt 20V MAX XR Premium Lithium-Ion 5.0Ah Battery Pack (5-Pack)

This is a five-pack of DeWalt's 20V MAX XR lithium-ion batteries, each rated 5.0Ah. The XR line uses higher-capacity cells than the standard 1.3Ah and 2.0Ah packs, so tools run longer between swaps. Each pack charges in about 90 minutes on a DeWalt 20V charger. Buying five at once suits people who run several 20V tools or crews that share a kit.

Questions and answers

Is the 5-pack worth it over buying singles?
If you run several 20V MAX tools or share batteries across a crew, the multi-pack usually costs less per battery than singles. For one or two tools, a smaller pack is enough.
Will these work in older DeWalt 20V MAX tools?
Yes. All 20V MAX batteries fit 20V MAX tools made since the line launched. The 5.0Ah pack adds runtime, not more power.
How long does a 5.0Ah pack take to charge?
About 90 minutes on a DeWalt 20V charger. Faster chargers cut that time.
Does the 5-pack include a charger?
No. It is batteries only, so you need a DeWalt 20V MAX charger.
How does 5.0Ah compare to 2.0Ah?
A 5.0Ah pack holds roughly two and a half times the energy of a 2.0Ah pack, so tools run longer but the pack is heavier.
When is the best time to buy?
Multi-packs tend to drop around Black Friday and spring tool events. Check the price history before buying.
What do buyers say about the DeWalt 20V MAX XR Premium Lithium-Ion 5.0Ah Battery Pack (5-Pack)?
Rated 4.5 out of 5 from 3,300 ratings.
