Our take on the DeWalt 20V MAX XR Premium Lithium-Ion 5.0Ah Battery Pack 8-Pack

This is an eight-pack of DeWalt's 20V MAX XR lithium-ion batteries, each rated 5.0Ah. The XR line is DeWalt's higher-capacity tier, and 5.0Ah packs run longer than the 2.0Ah batteries that ship in most kits. Eight batteries is a fleet-sized quantity, aimed at crews, multi-tool users and anyone who wants to stop swapping packs mid-job. Each pack charges in about 90 minutes on a compatible DeWalt charger.

Questions and answers

Is the 5.0Ah pack worth it over the 2.0Ah?
Yes for tools that draw hard, like circular saws and grinders. The 5.0Ah pack roughly doubles runtime over a 2.0Ah pack but weighs more, so it is less ideal for drills used overhead.
Do these fit all DeWalt 20V MAX tools?
Yes. Every DeWalt 20V MAX battery fits every 20V MAX tool, including the XR line. They do not fit DeWalt's 12V MAX or FlexVolt 60V tools.
Is a charger included?
No. This is a battery-only listing. You need a DeWalt 20V MAX charger, which most kit owners already have.
How long does a full charge take?
About 90 minutes per pack on a standard DeWalt charger. Faster chargers cut that time.
Do I need eight batteries?
Only if you run several tools at once or work away from power. Most home users are better served by two or three packs.
When is the best time to buy?
Bulk battery packs usually drop during DeWalt promotions and holiday sales. Compare the per-pack price against two-packs before buying.
What do buyers say about the DeWalt 20V MAX XR Premium Lithium-Ion 5.0Ah Battery Pack 8-Pack?
