Is the DeWalt DCMWSP256U2 worth it?

It makes sense if you already own DeWalt 20V MAX batteries and mow up to about an acre. The steel deck, rear-wheel drive and dual blades put it near the top of cordless walk-behinds. If your yard is small or flat, a lighter push mower costs less.

How long does the battery last?

DeWalt rates it at up to 80 minutes using both included 10 Ah batteries in succession. Expect less in tall or wet grass or with the self-propel running constantly. A half-acre lawn is a realistic target on a charge.

Does it mulch and bag?

Yes. It is a 3-in-1 mower with mulching, bagging and side discharge. The bag is rear-mounted, and you switch modes with a plug and lever.

How does it compare to the previous DeWalt mower?

This is the redesigned model with a new steel deck, dual-blade cutting system and AutoSense motor. It is rear-wheel drive rather than front-wheel drive, which gives better traction on hills. It also folds with one touch for storage.

What comes in the kit?

The kit includes the mower, two 20V MAX 10 Ah batteries and a charger. The bag and mulching plug are included. Check the listing for the exact charger model.

Cordless mower prices tend to drop in late fall and around spring holiday sales. Watch the price history for a dip below the typical range before buying.

Our take on the DEWALT DCMWSP256U2 Cordless Mower Kit

The DeWalt DCMWSP256U2 is a 21-inch self-propelled walk-behind mower that runs on two 20V MAX 10 Ah batteries. Its dual-blade steel deck and AutoSense motor deliver up to 80 minutes of runtime, enough for roughly half an acre to an acre. It offers mulching, bagging and side discharge, plus a one-touch folding handle for storage. It is a heavy machine at 76 lb, so the rear-wheel drive and variable speed dial matter on slopes.
