Is the DW788 worth it over a cheaper scroll saw?

If you cut intricate work often, yes. The low-vibration arm and easy tensioning are the main reasons owners pay more. For occasional craft cuts, a budget saw will do.

Can it cut thick hardwood?

It can, but slowly. The 1.3 amp motor and 1,750 SPM top speed suit stock up to about 2 inches; thicker hardwood needs a slow feed rate and sharp blades.

Does the table bevel both ways?

Yes. The cast iron table tilts 45 degrees to the left and 45 degrees to the right, which helps on angled inlays and compound cuts.

What comes in the box?

The saw, a blade and the basic tools for setup. It does not include a stand, foot switch or extra blades.
