Our take on the DEWALT XR 6-Tool 20-Volt Max Brushless Power Tool Combo Kit with Soft Case (Charger Included and 2-Batteries Included)

The DeWalt DCK694P2 is a six-piece 20V Max XR cordless kit built around brushless tools: a hammer drill, impact driver, 7-1/4-inch circular saw, reciprocating saw, oscillating multi-tool and a 110-lumen flashlight. It ships with two 5.0Ah DCB205 batteries, a charger and a soft contractor bag. The hammer drill's 1/2-inch nitro-carburized ratcheting chuck and the circular saw's 330 crosscuts per charge in 2x4 pine are the headline figures. It is a pro-grade kit, and the total kit weight of about 31.5 lbs reflects that.

Best forProfessional contractors and remodelersFramers and carpenters cutting and drilling dailyCrews standardizing on one 20V Max battery platformBuyers replacing several worn corded tools at once
Pros
  • All six tools are brushless for longer runtime and motor life
  • Two 5.0Ah DCB205 batteries cover heavy tools like the circular saw
  • 7-1/4-inch saw gives 2-9/16-inch depth of cut at 90 degrees
  • Tool-free Quick-Change on the oscillating multi-tool
  • Hammer drill chuck grips bits hard and resists slipping
  • Shares the 20V Max battery with DeWalt's full line
Cons
  • No jigsaw in the kit despite the six-tool count
  • Soft contractor bag, not a hard ToughSystem case
  • Kit is heavy at roughly 31.5 lbs to carry
  • Flashlight is only 110 lumens, dim by current standards
  • Circular saw is right-handed only

What reviewers say

Owners of DeWalt 20V XR kits generally rate the brushless tools highly for power and durability on job sites, and the two 5.0Ah batteries are a common point of praise. Complaints tend to focus on the bag instead of a hard case and on the basic flashlight.

Pros
  • Brushless motors hold up to daily professional use
  • Battery runtime on the circular saw and impact driver
  • Chuck grip on the hammer drill
  • Value of getting six tools and two batteries together
Cons
  • Soft bag offers little protection
  • Flashlight output is weak
  • No jigsaw included
  • Kit weight makes it awkward to haul

Questions and answers

Is the DeWalt 6-tool combo kit worth it for a professional?
Yes, if you need most of these tools and want two 5.0Ah batteries. Buying the hammer drill, impact driver and circular saw separately with batteries usually costs more than the kit.
How does this kit compare with DeWalt's Atomic line?
XR tools are the full-size, higher-power line; Atomic tools are more compact and lighter. This kit is XR except the recip saw, which is the compact Atomic DCS369 at 3.13 lbs.
What batteries and charger are included?
Two DCB205 20V Max 5.0Ah lithium-ion batteries and a charger. They fit every DeWalt 20V Max tool.
Does it come with a hard case?
No. It ships in a soft contractor bag, despite some listings mentioning ToughSystem. Plan on a separate ToughSystem box if you want hard protection.
Is a jigsaw included?
No. The six tools are a hammer drill, impact driver, circular saw, reciprocating saw, oscillating multi-tool and flashlight.
When is the best time to buy this kit?
DeWalt combo kits see the deepest discounts around Black Friday, Father's Day and end-of-year clearance. Check the price history before buying outside those windows.
Where is the DEWALT XR 6-Tool 20-Volt Max Brushless Power Tool Combo Kit with Soft Case (Charger Included and 2-Batteries Included) cheapest?
At eBay, for $899.00, as of our latest check.
