Our take on the Dixon Spark 5-Piece Complete Drum Kit

The Dixon Spark is a five-piece beginner kit with poplar shells in 10", 12", 14" and 16" sizes plus a 22" bass drum, sold with three brass cymbals, double-braced chrome hardware and a throne. The shells are fitted with mesh heads, which keep volume down for practice but change the feel and tone compared with standard drumheads. At $599.95 at eBay as of November 7, 2026, it sits at the low end of what the four new listings charge, so the price is a fair entry point for a full package.

Best forFirst-time drummers buying a full kit in one orderApartment or shared-wall practice where volume mattersParents outfitting a beginner without adding hardware
Pros
  • Complete package: five drums, three brass cymbals, hardware and throne
  • Poplar shells give a warm tone with decent projection for the price
  • Double-braced chrome hardware is sturdier than typical starter stands
  • Independent mounted tom arms allow flexible positioning
  • Mesh heads keep practice quiet
Cons
  • Mesh heads feel springy and mute the acoustic tone; most buyers will want real heads
  • Brass cymbals are entry level and sound thin next to B20 alloys
  • Poplar shells and starter hardware limit long-term upgrade value
  • 22" bass drum takes up real floor space

Questions and answers

Is the Dixon Spark good for a total beginner?
Yes. It bundles drums, cymbals, hardware and a throne, so nothing else is needed to start. The trade-off is entry-level cymbals and mesh heads that you will likely replace as you improve.
Why does it come with mesh heads?
Mesh heads cut volume for quiet practice and are common on electronic and practice setups. On an acoustic kit they reduce tone and rebound, so plan on swapping to standard heads for normal playing.
Can I play it without disturbing neighbors?
Mesh heads help, but the drums are still acoustic shells and the brass cymbals ring out. It is quieter than a standard kit but not silent.
Is $599.95 a good price?
It is the lowest of the four new listings as of November 7, 2026, and reasonable for a full five-piece package with cymbals and hardware. Compare against kits with standard heads and better cymbals before deciding.
What is included in the box?
Five drums (10", 12", 14", 16" and a 22" bass), a 14" hi-hat, 16" crash and 18" ride, double-braced chrome hardware, a single bass pedal and a deluxe throne.
Can I upgrade the cymbals and heads later?
Yes. Standard drumheads fit the shells, and the boom stand and mounts accept most aftermarket cymbals, so the kit can grow with you.
Where is the Dixon Spark 5-Piece Complete Drum Kit cheapest?
At gear4music.com, for $649.00, 28% under what the other stores charge, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Dixon Spark 5-Piece Complete Drum Kit?
4 stores we checked sell it, including gear4music.com, eBay, Andre Alfonso Music, PlayMusic123.com.
