Duluth Trading's DuluthFlex Fire Hose Relaxed Fit Carpenter Pants are stretch workwear built from the brand's Fire Hose fabric, a cotton blend that repels water and is meant to hold up on job sites. The relaxed cut sits at the waist, adds a hidden crouch gusset for bending and climbing, and carries seven pockets including back patch and mid-leg utility pockets. They rate 4.6 out of 5 from about 2,800 ratings, so owner feedback is broadly positive. No current store price was provided, so check the price history before buying.

Questions and answers

Are these pants true to size?
They run relaxed, and several owners say they fit roomier than expected. If you are between sizes or prefer a trimmer leg, consider sizing down.
How do they compare to standard Fire Hose pants?
The DuluthFlex version adds stretch and the hidden crouch gusset, so it moves more freely than the original rigid Fire Hose canvas. The trade-off is slightly less stiffness and structure.
Are they waterproof?
No. The fabric repels water and handles light rain or splashes, but it is not waterproof and will soak through in sustained wet conditions.
What is the crouch gusset for?
The hidden gusset adds fabric in the crotch so the pants do not bind when you squat, kneel or climb. It is the main comfort feature beyond the stretch fabric.
How should I wash them?
Machine wash them, and avoid fabric softener, which can reduce the water-repellent finish. Reapply a spray-on DWR treatment when water stops beading.
When is the best time to buy?
Duluth Trading runs frequent sales, and workwear tends to be discounted around seasonal clearance events. Check the price history to see whether the current price is near its low.
