Is the XP5500EH worth it for home backup?

Yes if you need 240V for a well pump or a transfer switch and don't need clean inverter power. At $721.22 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, it is a low-cost way to get 4,500 running watts and dual fuel.

Can it run a refrigerator and a furnace?

Yes. Its 4,500 running watts cover a fridge, furnace blower and lights with room to spare. Start-up surges from a well pump or AC are the main limit.

How long does it run on a tank?

About 8.9 hours at half load on the 4-gallon gasoline tank. Propane runtime is shorter per pound of fuel, so keep a spare tank or cylinder.

Is it safe for laptops and TVs?

It is a conventional generator, not an inverter, so power is not clean enough for sensitive electronics without a surge protector or UPS. Use it for appliances and tools.

Does it come with wheels?

The listed unit is 124 lbs dry with no wheel kit listed. Plan on a cart or a second person to move it.

Portable generators usually drop around storm-season demand spikes and holiday sales. The current best new price is $721.22 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026.
