Our take on the Empyrean Velvet Wall-Mounted Upholstered Headboard

The Empyrean is a queen-size upholstered headboard in velvet that mounts to the wall instead of bolting to a bed frame, so it floats above the mattress. Wall mounting frees floor space and lets you set the height yourself, which suits renters and platform-bed owners. At $65.99 at Wayfair as of November 4, 2026, it is the only new price listed, so there is no recent range to compare against.

Best forRenters who can't bolt a headboard to a framePlatform and adjustable bed ownersSmall bedrooms where floor space mattersShoppers who want a velvet look on a budget
Pros
  • Wall mounting works with any bed frame, including adjustable bases
  • You choose the mounting height, so it fits deep mattresses
  • Floating look keeps the floor clear underneath
  • Velvet upholstery gives a softer look than wood or metal
  • Queen size covers the standard mattress width
Cons
  • Requires drilling into the wall; not renter-friendly in every lease
  • No frame attachment means it can't anchor a headboard-less bed
  • Velvet shows dust, lint and body oils
  • Wall anchors and mounting hardware may not be included
  • Only one new price listed, so there is no price history to judge the deal

Questions and answers

Is a wall-mounted headboard worth it over a standard one?
Yes if your bed frame has no headboard brackets or you rent and want a clean look. It also lets you set the height to suit a thick mattress. The trade-off is drilling into the wall.
Will it fit a queen bed and a thick mattress?
It is sized for a queen mattress, about 60 inches wide. Because it mounts to the wall, you can raise it to clear a deep mattress and still have it look right.
What do I need to install it?
A drill, a level and wall anchors suited to your wall type. Check the box contents before buying, since mounting hardware is not always included.
Does it work with an adjustable bed base?
Yes. Since it attaches to the wall and not the frame, the base can move without pulling the headboard with it.
Is $65.99 a good price?
It is the only new price listed as of November 4, 2026, at Wayfair, so there is no recent range to compare. Upholstered queen headboards often run higher, so it is a low entry price for velvet.
How do I clean velvet upholstery?
Vacuum it with a soft brush attachment and blot spills right away. Avoid soaking the fabric, and keep it out of direct sun to limit fading.
Where is the Empyrean Velvet Wall-Mounted Upholstered Headboard cheapest?
At Wayfair, for $65.99, as of our latest check.
