Our take on the Ethan Allen Spencer Roll-Arm Sofa

The Ethan Allen Spencer is a 93-inch leather sofa with rolled arms, a pillow back and nailhead trim. It seats three comfortably and its 40-inch depth gives it a deep, lounge-friendly sit. The brown leather and traditional detailing suit living rooms and dens more than modern open-plan spaces. It is a made-to-order upholstery piece, so expect a lead time and a price well above mass-market sofas.

Cons
  • Made-to-order, so delivery takes weeks
  • Premium price compared with mainstream leather sofas
  • 40-inch depth needs a large room
  • Leather and nailhead styling is not for modern interiors

Questions and answers

Is the Spencer sofa worth the price?
If you want a leather three-seater built to last a decade or more and like the traditional look, the construction justifies part of the premium. Shoppers on a tighter budget can find similar silhouettes for less, with thinner leather.
How long is the Spencer sofa?
It is 93 inches long and 40 inches deep, with a 20-inch seat height. Measure your room and doorway first; this is a large sofa that needs a wide space.
Is the leather real?
Yes, the Spencer is upholstered in leather, and Ethan Allen offers leather and fabric choices on custom orders. Ask the store which grade of leather a given price includes.
Does it come in other colors or fabrics?
Ethan Allen builds the Spencer to order, so you can usually choose other leathers and fabrics beyond the brown shown. Availability and price vary by grade.
When is the best time to buy?
Ethan Allen runs seasonal promotions, often around major holidays, and clearance on floor models. Custom orders rarely discount deeply, so compare the sale price against the regular price before ordering.
