Questions and answers

Is the Fortress Quick Access Pistol Safe worth it?
For a single handgun kept for home defense, yes. It opens fast, has an alarm, and costs $71.99 at Academy Sports + Outdoors as of November 4, 2026. It is not a fire safe, so do not expect document protection.
How fast does it open?
Enter the 4-digit code and the spring-loaded door drops down. Owners describe it as quick enough for one-handed access in the dark.
Can it be bolted down?
Yes. It has pre-drilled mounting holes. Bolting it down matters because the safe weighs only 8.5 lbs and is easy to carry otherwise.
What fits inside?
The interior is about 9.84 in deep with 0.145 cu ft of space. That fits a full-size pistol and a spare magazine, not much more.
What is in the box?
The safe, two high-security backup keys, and mounting hardware for the pre-drilled holes.
