Our take on the Franklin Furniture 616 Ransom Reclining Sofa with Drop Down Table & Cupholders in Astrid Cedar

The Franklin Furniture 616 Ransom is a three-seat reclining sofa in Astrid Cedar, a stone-toned fabric, with a drop-down center back that turns into a table with two cupholders. It uses a wood frame and pillow-top arms, and the two outer seats recline. It is a mid-priced family sofa, typically sold through regional furniture stores rather than national chains, so pricing varies by dealer.

Best forFamilies who want reclining seats plus a shared table and cupholders
Living rooms or media rooms where the sofa faces a TV
Buyers who prefer fabric over leather
Shoppers who want a recliner without a console between seats
Pros
  • Drop-down table with two cupholders adds function without a fixed console
  • Pillow-top arms are comfortable for leaning
  • Wood frame is a sturdier build than particleboard frames
  • Three seats recline, so more than one person can put their feet up
  • Fabric in a neutral stone tone fits most room palettes
Cons
  • Bulky footprint; needs clearance behind for recline
  • Drop-down table only works when the center back is folded down
  • Fabric upholstery stains more easily than leather with kids and pets
  • Reclining mechanism is manual on most 616 configurations, not power
  • Dealer-only availability makes price comparison and delivery terms uneven

Questions and answers

Is the Franklin 616 Ransom worth it?
It is a reasonable value if you want three reclining seats plus a drop-down table and cupholders in one piece. Compare the dealer's delivered price against similar fabric reclining sofas, since pricing varies widely by store.
Does it have power recline?
The 616 Ransom is generally a manual, lever- or latch-reclining sofa. Confirm with the specific dealer listing, because some Franklin models offer a power upgrade.
How much space does it need behind it?
A manual recliner needs several inches of clearance behind the back to fully recline. Measure your room and doorway before buying, since this is a large three-seat sofa.
What is the drop-down table made of?
The center back folds down to a hard table surface with two molded cupholders. It is meant for drinks, remotes and snacks, not heavy items.
Is the Astrid Cedar fabric easy to clean?
It is a woven fabric in a stone tone, so it wipes up better than light colors but is not stain-proof. Use a fabric protector and spot-clean with a mild upholstery cleaner.
When is it cheapest?
Franklin sofas usually drop during store clearance events and holiday sales. Watch the price history on this page and buy when it sits near its recent low.
