Our take on the Gibson Elite Matisse 16-Piece Double Bowl Dinnerware Set, Service for 4

The Gibson Elite Matisse is a 16-piece stoneware set that serves four: four dinner plates, four dessert plates, four cereal bowls and four 31 oz dinner bowls. Each piece has a reactive glaze, so no two sets look exactly alike, and everything is dishwasher and microwave safe. At $79.08 at Wayfair as of November 3, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range, roughly $20 per place setting.

Best for
Households of four that want one set for every meal
Buyers who want stoneware weight without paying premium-brand prices
People who like a glazed, slightly varied look rather than uniform color
Dorm or first-apartment kitchens that need bowls as well as plates
Pros
  • 16 pieces cover plates and two bowl sizes for four people
  • 31 oz dinner bowls handle pasta, soup and grain bowls
  • Reactive glaze gives each piece a one-of-a-kind finish
  • Dishwasher and microwave safe
  • Stoneware holds heat better than thin porcelain
  • About $20 per place setting at the current price
Cons
  • Reactive glaze varies between pieces, so colors may not match a photo exactly
  • Stoneware is heavy and chips if knocked against a sink or counter
  • No mugs or serving platter in the set
  • Hand-washing is not needed, but glaze can dull over years of dishwasher cycles
  • Replacement pieces are not always easy to find in the same glaze

Questions and answers

Is the Gibson Elite Matisse worth it?
At $79.08 for 16 pieces, it is a solid value if you want a complete everyday set with large bowls. Expect stoneware weight and some glaze variation, not fine-china consistency.
How does it compare with the Gibson Elite other sets?
The Matisse stands out for its reactive glaze and 31 oz dinner bowls. Other Gibson Elite lines use similar stoneware but often include mugs instead of a second bowl size.
Is it microwave and dishwasher safe?
Yes. Gibson lists every piece as dishwasher and microwave safe. Skip the broiler and avoid sudden temperature changes, which can crack stoneware.
How big are the bowls and plates?
Dinner bowls hold 31 oz, dessert plates are 8.5 inches across, and the salad bowl is 8.25 inches wide. The dinner plates are standard size for a full meal.
What is in the box?
Four dinner plates, four dessert plates, four cereal bowls and four dinner bowls, 16 pieces total. No mugs or serving pieces are included.
