How big a pool will 140,000 BTU heat?

It is sized for medium to large in-ground pools, roughly up to 20,000–25,000 gallons in a mild climate. Larger pools or cooler regions will see slower temperature gains.

What electrical setup does it need?

A dedicated 230 V, 60 Hz circuit with a maximum breaker size of 70 amps. Have a licensed electrician confirm your panel can carry it before buying.

Can it run in winter?

No. The minimum operating air temperature is 50 °F, so it is not a freeze-protection or cold-weather heater. Below that, output drops off or the unit shuts down.

What water flow does it require?

Between 30 and 75 gallons per minute through 2 in. plumbing, with 2 in. x 2 1/2 in. pipe connections. Check your pump's flow at the filter before installing.

Is it cheaper to run than a gas heater?

In mild climates a heat pump typically costs less per BTU than gas or propane. In cool climates, where it runs less efficiently, the savings shrink.

When is the price lowest?

Pool heat pumps usually discount in late summer and early fall as the season winds down. Track the price history here rather than buying at the start of swim season.

The Hayward HeatPro is a 140,000 BTU pool heat pump for in-ground pools, wired for 230 V on a 70-amp breaker. It runs on a single-speed compressor and needs at least 50 °F air to operate, so it suits warmer climates and extended swim seasons rather than year-round heating in cold regions. Its best new price is $6,999 at Amazon as of November 7, 2026, with 5 stores listing it new.
