Our take on the Hudson&Canal Thew Brass Table Lamp

The Hudson&Canal Thew is a mid-century brass table lamp with a dome-shaped metal shade, a 20.75-inch height and a single E26 socket rated to 60 W. It ships with a 9 W LED bulb and plugs into a standard 120 V outlet. It has no dimmer and no adjustable arm, so it is a fixed reading or desk light rather than a task lamp you can aim. At $36.39 at Kohl's as of November 6, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent price range, with only two stores pricing it new.

Best forDesks and reading chairs that need a warm brass accentMid-century and vintage-styled roomsShoppers who want a plug-in lamp with a bulb includedSmall side tables where a 10.5-inch footprint fits
Pros
  • Brass metal base and dome shade give a solid mid-century look
  • Bulb included: 9 W LED in the box
  • Standard E26 socket takes any 60 W type A bulb
  • Compact footprint at 10.5 inches wide and 7 inches deep
  • Light enough at 3.97 lbs to move between rooms
Cons
  • No dimmer, so brightness is on or off only
  • Shade and arm do not adjust, so light direction is fixed
  • Metal shade can feel hot near the bulb at higher wattages
  • Single bulb limits light output for larger desks

What reviewers say

  • 4.8 / 561 ratings

Rated 4.8 out of 5 from 61 ratings, the Thew is well liked for its brass finish and how it looks on a desk or side table. Buyers treat it as a style piece that also reads well, not as a flexible task lamp.

What people mention
  • LooksPraisedOwners like the brass finish and dome shade as a mid-century accent.

Questions and answers

Is the bulb included?
Yes. It comes with a 9 W SB LED bulb in the E26 socket. You can swap in any type A bulb up to 60 W.
Can I use a dimmer with it?
No. The lamp has no built-in dimmer and is not listed as dimmable, so a dimmable bulb alone will not give you dimming at the lamp.
How tall is it, and will it fit on a desk?
It is 20.75 inches tall, 10.5 inches wide and 7 inches deep, and weighs 3.97 lbs. That suits a desk or side table but is tall for a nightstand shelf.
Is $36.39 a good price?
It is the best new price found as of November 6, 2026, at Kohl's, with two stores pricing it new. That puts it at the low end of its recent range.
Does it need assembly?
It is a plug-in lamp with a standard 120 V cord. Expect to attach the shade and base, which owners describe as quick.
Can the shade be angled for reading?
No. The shade and arm are fixed, so aim the lamp by moving the whole unit.
Where is the Hudson&Canal Thew Brass Table Lamp cheapest?
