Is IOAOI PuriResin worth it?

It is a reasonable pick if you want a reusable resin that shows when it is exhausted. At $15.99 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, it costs more than basic filter pads but can be regenerated several times.

How much media do I need for my tank?

The pack holds 100 ml, which suits small tanks or a media compartment in a sump. Larger tanks usually need two or more packs, and the label gives no tank-size rating.

How do I regenerate it?

Soak the spent resin in a bleach and water solution, then rinse thoroughly. Submerge a small amount in water and test for chlorine before putting it back, and discard it if a bleach smell remains.

Will it work in a saltwater reef tank?

Yes. It is sold for fish, corals and plants and removes organic waste in both fresh and salt water. Rinse it before use and place it where flow passes through the media.

Can slime coat products damage it?

Some slime coat additives can permanently foul the resin and make regeneration hard. If you dose them, keep the media out of that water or expect to replace it sooner.

When is the price lowest?

The current best is $15.99 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026. Aquarium media prices move little, so watch for multi-pack listings rather than deep single-pack discounts.

Our take on the IOAOI PuriResin Aquarium Filter Media

IOAOI PuriResin is a macroporous synthetic polymer resin sold as a filter media for freshwater and saltwater aquariums. It adsorbs dissolved and solid organic waste, and its color shifts from light yellow to dark brown or black as it loads up. Once exhausted, it can be regenerated in a bleach and water solution instead of thrown away. The best new price is $15.99 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, and three stores carry it new.
