Our take on the Lava Lamp Yellow/Blue 27"

This is a 27-inch lava lamp in yellow wax with blue liquid, standing on an aluminum base with a silver finish. It runs on a 100-watt reflector bulb and a simple on/off switch, so it works as a plug-in accent light rather than a battery lamp. At $114.99 at Surprise Castle as of November 3, 2026, it sits at the low end of what large lava lamps of this size cost new. The 27-inch height makes it a floor-standing or low-table piece, not a desk lamp.

Best forLiving rooms and bedrooms that need a warm accent lightDorm rooms and retro or novelty decorBuyers who want a tall floor-standing lava lampGifts for fans of mid-century and 1970s style
Pros
  • Tall 27-inch body makes a visible statement in a room
  • Classic yellow wax and blue liquid contrast
  • Aluminum base is sturdier than plastic bases on cheaper lamps
  • Standard 100-watt reflector bulb is easy to replace
  • Simple on/off switch, no setup or app needed
Cons
  • Corded electric only, so placement depends on an outlet
  • 100-watt bulb runs warm and uses more power than LED lamps
  • Glass body can chip or crack if knocked over
  • Wax flow can take an hour or more to warm up
  • No dimmer, only on and off

Questions and answers

Is $114.99 a good price for this lava lamp?
It is the best new price among the three stores listing it as of November 3, 2026. Large 27-inch lava lamps often sell for more, so this is a reasonable price if you want the tall size.
How tall is it and where does it fit?
It is 27 inches tall and 10.5 inches wide. That is too tall for most desks, so plan on a low table, shelf or the floor.
What bulb does it use?
A 100-watt reflector light bulb. That is a common type, so replacements are easy to find, but it runs warmer than an LED.
Does it need assembly?
The base is included and the lamp comes as one unit. You add the bulb, place the glass on the base and plug it in.
How long does it take to warm up?
Expect roughly an hour before the wax flows well. Cool rooms and the first run of a new lamp take longer.
Can I put it on a dimmer or timer?
The switch is a plain on/off, and the lamp is not sold as dimmable. A plug-in timer works, but dimming the bulb can stop the wax from flowing.
Where is the Lava Lamp Yellow/Blue 27" cheapest?
At Surprise Castle, for $114.99, 23% under what the other stores charge, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the Lava Lamp Yellow/Blue 27"?
Rated 4.2 out of 5 from 141 ratings.
Where can I buy the Lava Lamp Yellow/Blue 27"?
9 stores we checked sell it, including Surprise Castle, eBay, M-Theory Music, Hopscotch Toys & Games, Calico Toy Shoppe.
