Our take on the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 15.3" Touchscreen Laptop AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS 24GB RAM 512GB SSD

The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 is a 15.3-inch mainstream laptop built around AMD's Ryzen 7 8840HS, an 8-core chip that boosts to 5.1 GHz, paired with 24GB of DDR5-5600 RAM and a 512GB SSD. The 15.3-inch WUXGA IPS touchscreen runs 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz and 300 nits, and the Radeon 780M integrated graphics handle light gaming and streaming. Lenovo rates battery life at about 8 hours, and Windows 11 Pro comes preinstalled. It is a value-focused business and school machine rather than a premium ultrabook.

Questions and answers

Is the Ryzen 7 8840HS fast enough for everyday work?
Yes. Eight cores and 16 threads at up to 5.1 GHz handle office apps, browsers with many tabs and light photo editing easily. Heavy video editing or 3D work will want a discrete GPU.
Can it run games?
The Radeon 780M runs older and lighter titles at 1080p with reduced settings. Demanding modern games will need low settings, and the 60 Hz screen caps smoothness.
Is the RAM upgradeable?
The 24GB is listed as the maximum configuration, so plan on it being fixed. Buy the memory you need up front.
Does it have a touchscreen?
Yes. The 15.3-inch WUXGA IPS panel is multi-touch, which suits note-taking and casual browsing.
What comes in the box?
The laptop and its power adapter. A stylus and mouse are not included.
When is it cheapest?
IdeaPad Slim 3 models see the deepest discounts during back-to-school and Black Friday sales. Check the price history before buying outside those windows.
