Our take on the Liberty Safe Gun Safe for Under Bed Use

The Liberty Safe Under-Bed Gun Safe is a low-profile lockbox, 7.1 inches tall and 20 inches wide, built to slide under a bed, couch or car seat. It uses an electronic keypad and a Q235B steel body, and comes with a steel security cable and a document bag. At $59.21 at Bolton Tools as of November 4, 2026, it is the only new price listed, so there is no recent range to compare against. It is a basic quick-access box, not a fire-rated or waterproof safe.

Best forGun owners who want quick-access storage near the bedRenters who need a cable-anchored box, not a bolted safeCar and truck storage for a handgunKeeping a firearm away from kids and guests
Pros
  • Slim 7.1-inch height fits under most beds and couches
  • Electronic keypad gives fast access in the dark
  • Steel security cable anchors it to a frame or seat bracket
  • Includes a document bag for papers and a spare magazine
  • Light enough at 64 lbs for one person to move
Cons
  • Thin Q235B steel plate is not pry-resistant like a real gun safe
  • No fire rating; the maker says it must be kept from fire and humidity
  • Electronic lock depends on battery power and can fail
  • Cable anchoring is easier to defeat than bolting down
  • Small interior limits it to one or two handguns

Questions and answers

Is this safe good enough for a home defense handgun?
Yes for quick access and keeping a gun out of the wrong hands. It is not a substitute for a bolted, fire-rated safe for valuable firearms.
Does it protect against fire or water?
No. Liberty specifies it must be protected from fire, humidity and dust, so keep it in a dry, climate-controlled spot.
How does the electronic lock work?
You enter a code on the keypad to open the lid. Keep a spare battery on hand, since a dead battery means you need another way in.
Will it fit under my bed?
At 7.1 inches tall and 20 inches wide it fits most bed frames and couches. Measure your clearance before buying.
What comes in the box?
The safe, a steel security cable and a document bag. You supply the batteries for the keypad.
Is $59.21 a good price?
It is the only new price listed, at Bolton Tools as of November 4, 2026, so there is no recent range to judge it against. Compare it with other cable-anchored under-bed boxes before buying.
Where is the Liberty Safe Gun Safe for Under Bed Use cheapest?
At Bolton Tools, for $59.21, as of our latest check.
