Will it fit my 12-inch skillet?

It is built for 12-inch round skillets, including Lodge's own. Measure your pan's inner rim across the top; a 10-inch pan or an oval pan will not seat it.

Does it need seasoning?

It comes pre-seasoned, so you can use it right away. Wash, dry it fully on the stove, and rub a thin layer of oil now and then to keep the surface black and rust-free.

Can I use it in the oven and on the stove?

Yes. Cast iron takes oven heat and stovetop burners, and it can go over a campfire. Avoid sudden temperature changes and don't soak it in water.

If you already cook with a 12-inch cast iron skillet, a fitted lid opens up braising and roasting for about the price of a mid-range pan lid. If you rarely cover the pan, a sheet of foil does most of the job.

One seasoned cast iron lid. The skillet is sold separately.

Our take on the Lodge 12 Inch Cast Iron Skillet Lid

This is Lodge's seasoned cast iron lid for 12-inch skillets, sized about 12.6 by 12.1 inches and weighing 5.58 lb. It turns an open skillet into a covered pan for braising, roasting and keeping food warm, and it is made in the USA. At $24.25 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, it is the only new price we track, so there is no recent range to compare against.
