Our take on the Macy's Brenalee 96" Roll Arm Performance Fabric Slipcover Sofa with Four Pillows

The Brenalee is a 96-inch roll-arm sofa from Macy's with a skirted silhouette and a removable performance-fabric slipcover in a 98% polyester, 2% nylon blend. The slipcover is the main draw: it can be washed and replaced, which suits households with kids, pets or heavy daily use. The deep 29.9-inch seat and 20.9-inch seat height make it a loungy, easy-to-get-up-from couch rather than a formal one. The plywood frame and plastic legs keep the cost down, so it is built to a mainstream rather than heirloom standard.

Questions and answers

Is the slipcover machine washable?
Yes. The performance-fabric cover is designed to be removed and washed, which is the main reason to choose this sofa over a fixed-upholstery one. Follow the care label and air-dry or tumble low to avoid shrinkage.
How does the Brenalee compare with a fixed-cover sofa?
You trade a sturdier hardwood frame for a cover you can wash or replace. If stains and pets are a concern, the slipcover wins; if you want a 15-year frame, spend more.
Will a 96-inch sofa fit my room?
Measure the wall and the delivery path first. At 96 inches it needs a large room, and the roll arms add bulk at each end. Check doorways and stair turns before ordering.
What is included in the box?
The sofa, its slipcover and four throw pillows. Assembly is limited, mainly attaching the plastic legs.
Is the seat deep enough for tall people?
Yes. The 29.9-inch seat depth is deeper than most standard sofas, so tall sitters fit well. Shorter sitters may want a lumbar pillow behind them.
When is the best time to buy it?
Macy's furniture goes on sale around major holiday weekends and during storewide home sales. Compare the current price against its recent range before buying.
