Our take on the Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Compact Reciprocating Saw (Tool Only)

The Makita XRJ07 is a compact 18V LXT brushless reciprocating saw sold as a bare tool, so it runs on batteries you already own. It weighs about 5.7 lbs with a battery and hits 0-3,000 strokes per minute with a 1-1/8 inch stroke, cutting up to 5-1/8 inches in pipe. A tool-less blade change and electric brake make it quick for overhead and one-handed work. The best new price is $144.97 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, with 6 stores listing it new.

Best forLXT owners who want a second saw without buying batteriesPlumbers and electricians cutting pipe overheadDemolition and remodel work in tight spacesOne-handed cutting where a full-size saw won't fit
Pros
  • Brushless motor for more runtime per charge
  • Compact and light at about 5.7 lbs with battery
  • Tool-less blade change speeds up swaps
  • Electric brake stops the blade fast
  • Reinforced fixed shoe holds up to rough use
Cons
  • Tool only: no battery or charger in the box
  • No anti-vibration system, so long cuts wear on the hands
  • 1-1/8 inch stroke is shorter than full-size saws, so slower in thick material
  • Not a substitute for a full-size saw in heavy demolition

Questions and answers

Is the Makita XRJ07 worth it over the older brushed saw?
Yes, if you already own LXT batteries. The brushless motor gives longer runtime and the compact body is easier to control overhead. The brushed version is cheaper but heavier and less efficient.
Does it come with a battery and charger?
No. This is a tool-only listing, so you need an 18V LXT battery and charger. Budget for those if you are not already on the platform.
How does it compare with the Makita XRJ05?
The XRJ07 is the compact model: lighter and shorter, with a 1-1/8 inch stroke. The XRJ05 is a full-size saw with a longer stroke and more power for heavy demolition, but it is bigger and heavier.
What can it cut?
Wood, plastic and pipe up to 5-1/8 inches, plus demolition work with the right blade. It is not made for metal plate or masonry.
When is the price lowest?
Bare-tool prices tend to dip during Makita promotions and holiday sales. The current best is $144.97 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, so compare that against other LXT bare-tool deals.
Where is the Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Compact Reciprocating Saw (Tool Only) cheapest?
At eBay, for $144.97, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Compact Reciprocating Saw (Tool Only)?
6 stores we checked sell it, including eBay, Home Depot, Dry It Yourself Center, usatoolsinc.com, Mowers at Jacks.
