Is the GAG11 worth it over a corded grinder?

If you work away from outlets or already own XGT batteries, yes. The brushless motor is rated at corded-equivalent 13 AMP power. If you only grind in a shop, a corded grinder costs far less.

Does the $319 price include a battery?

No. The $319 at Home Depot as of November 5, 2026 is the bare tool. You need a 40V max XGT battery and charger, or a kit version, which costs more.

What is the difference between the GAG11 and the GAG11Z?

They are the same grinder; the Z suffix marks the bare-tool package. The kit version adds batteries and a charger.

What size wheels does it take?

It uses 5-inch wheels with a 7/8-inch arbor, the common size for 5-inch angle grinders. It handles both grinding and cutting discs.

Can I use my 18V LXT batteries in it?

No. The GAG11 runs only on 40V max XGT batteries. LXT 18V packs do not fit the XGT slide mount.

Our take on the Makita 40V max XGT GAG11

The Makita GAG11 is a cordless 5-inch angle grinder on Makita's 40V max XGT platform. Its brushless motor delivers up to 8,500 RPM with variable speed, and Makita rates the output as equivalent to a 13 AMP corded grinder. It includes kickback control, which cuts power if the wheel binds. The best new price is $319 at Home Depot as of November 5, 2026; that is a bare-tool price, so batteries and charger are extra unless you buy a kit.
