Does the DCL284FZ come with a battery and charger?

No. The FZ suffix means bare tool, so you get the vacuum only. You need a Makita 18V LXT battery and charger, or a kit that includes them.

Which batteries does it take?

Any Makita 18V LXT lithium-ion battery. A 3.0Ah pack gives short bursts of cleaning; a 5.0Ah or 6.0Ah pack runs longer but adds weight.

Is $164.39 a good price?

It is the only new price listed as of November 7, 2026, at Tiny Lux, so there is no competing store price to judge it against. Compare it with typical bare-tool pricing before buying.

Can it clean carpets?

It handles low-pile rugs and surface debris. It is a stick vacuum without a deep brush-roll agitation system, so it is not a substitute for a full upright on plush carpet.

How does the 2-in-1 mode work?

The handset detaches from the wand so you can use it as a handheld vacuum for stairs, car seats and corners. Reattach the wand and floor head for standing floor cleaning.

Is it worth it over a corded stick vacuum?

If you already own Makita 18V batteries, the shared battery system and cordless reach make it convenient. If not, add battery and charger cost, which can bring it close to a corded model with stronger suction.
