Is the XT612M worth it over buying tools separately?

Combo kits usually cost less than the same tools bought one by one, and this one adds two batteries and a bag. If you need most of the six tools, the kit is the better value; if you only need two, buy those alone.

What tools are in the box?

The kit includes six 18V LXT tools, two 18V lithium-ion batteries, a charger and a tool bag. Check the retailer's tool list, since bundles and battery capacities can differ.

Do the batteries fit other Makita tools?

Yes. The 18V LXT batteries work across Makita's LXT line, including many saws, drivers, grinders and outdoor tools. That shared platform is the main reason to stay with LXT.

Is this kit good for a pro or a homeowner?

It is aimed at pros and serious DIYers who use several tools regularly. A casual homeowner may be better served by a smaller kit with a drill and impact driver.

When is the price lowest?

Makita combo kits tend to drop during holiday sales and end-of-season promotions. Track the price history and buy when it falls below the recent range.

Our take on the Makita XT612M 18V LXT 6-Tool

The Makita XT612M is an 18V LXT cordless combo kit bundling six tools: a hammer driver-drill, impact driver, reciprocating saw, circular saw, and work light, plus a second tool in the set. It runs on two 18V lithium-ion batteries with brushless motors on the core tools and ships in a tool bag. Package weight is about 41 pounds. It suits buyers who want one battery platform across drilling, driving, cutting and fastening.
