Is the Makita XWT15Z worth it?

Yes if you already own Makita 18V LXT batteries and need a compact 1/2-inch impact wrench for car lugs and general work. At $229 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, it is near the bottom of its recent price range, but budget for a battery and charger if you have none.

Does it come with a battery and charger?

No. The XWT15Z is a bare tool, so the box has the wrench only. You need a Makita 18V LXT battery and charger, and a 5.0 Ah pack or larger gets the most out of it.

How does it compare to Makita's high-torque wrenches?

The XWT15Z delivers 430 ft-lbs of nut-busting torque, while Makita's high-torque models are rated well above that. This one is shorter and lighter, which helps in wheel wells, but it is the wrong tool for stubborn heavy-truck or rusted fasteners.

What size sockets does it take?

It has a 1/2-inch square drive with a detent anvil, so it uses standard 1/2-inch impact sockets. Use impact-rated sockets, not chrome hand sockets.

How long does the battery last?

Runtime depends on the pack and the job. Makita rates the brushless motor for up to 50% longer run time per charge than its older brushed models, and a 5.0 Ah LXT pack covers most tire rotations and light assembly work.

Bare-tool prices move with promotions and kit bundles. As of November 4, 2026, the best new price was $229 at Amazon across four stores, which is at the low end of its recent range.
