The Melissa & Doug Take Along Sorting Barn is a wooden farm-themed shape sorter for ages 2 to 5. Ten chunky pieces (cow, horse, pig, sheep, goat, chicken, dog, duck, tractor and farmer) fit into shaped holes in the barn, and the flip-up roof lets kids reach in and grab them. A built-in handle makes it a travel toy. At $29.99 at Nordstrom as of November 5, 2026, it sits at the top of its recent range across 6 stores, so it is not a markdown price.

With 4.7 out of 5 from 1,825 ratings, owners largely praise the build quality and how well the pieces suit toddler hands. Complaints tend to be about lost pieces and the toy being simpler than expected.
Kids can take farm animal fun wherever they go with the Take-Along Sorting Barn! Fit the 10 wooden play pieces into shaped holes in the sturdy wooden barn, or stand the pieces up for pretend play. Flip up the barn roof for quick and easy access, and use the handle to take playtime anywhere. A perfect gift for toddlers and preschoolers two and older, the chunky pieces (ducks, horse, pig, goat, sheep, chicken, dog, cow, tractor, and farmer) are easy for little hands to grasp and maneuver, and help promote fine motor skills, matching and sorting, and creative play.
