Our take on the Metallica (The Black Album) LP

Metallica's self-titled 1991 album, widely called The Black Album, on vinyl. It is the record that turned the band from thrash into a stadium act, with Enter Sandman, Nothing Else Matters and Sad But True. The best new price is $34.99 at World Wide Stereo as of November 8, 2026, with 8 stores listing it new. That is a normal price for a single-disc major-label reissue, so there is no urgency to buy.

Questions and answers

Is this the vinyl LP or a CD?
The listing title says LP, but the spec sheet also lists the format as CD. Confirm the format with the store before ordering.
Is The Black Album a good first Metallica record?
Yes. It is the band's most accessible album, with slower tempos and cleaner production than the 1980s thrash records.
How many songs are on it?
Twelve tracks, including Enter Sandman, Sad But True, The Unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters.
Is $34.99 a good price?
It is a typical price for a new single-LP reissue. Standard pressings often sell for less, so compare the other 7 stores before buying.
Which version should I buy?
For sound, look for a reissue cut from the original analog masters. For collecting, early Vertigo pressings are the ones that hold value.
Does it include a download code?
That depends on the specific pressing. Check the store's product details, since many modern reissues include one and older pressings do not.
