Is the Monoprice Retro DLX Plus good for beginners?

Yes, if you budget for a professional setup. The S-style layout and low price suit a first guitar, but the stock action and frets often need adjustment.

What pickups does it have?

Three single-coil pickups in an S-style configuration. They cover clean and light overdrive tones but sound thin under heavy gain.

Does it come with a case?

It ships with a gig bag, not a hard case. A hard case is worth adding if you transport it often.

The listed weight is 11.28 lb, which is on the heavy side for a beginner guitar. A wide strap helps.
