The Mr. Heater Portable Buddy is a propane radiant heater rated at 4,000 and 9,000 BTU, built for garages, workshops, tents and job sites. It runs on a 1 lb propane cylinder or a hose to a larger tank, and its low-oxygen shut-off and tip-over switch are the safety features that made it a standard in the category. It is indoor-safe only in the manufacturer's stated vented or well-ventilated settings, so read the manual before using it in a tent or cabin. It is a long-running model with steady demand, so prices move around the heating season rather than dropping much off it.
Lowest price we've seen: $89.99 on Nov 1 at Rogers Sporting Goods. Tracked across 1 store since Nov 1.
Owners rate it highly for quick, reliable heat in cold garages and shelters. Complaints center on propane cost and the ventilation rules rather than on reliability.
