Questions and answers

Is a portable washing machine worth it for a dorm?
Yes, if your building has no laundry or the shared machines are costly. A 2.4 cu. ft. unit handles a few days of clothes for one person, and the drain pump lets you empty it into a sink.
How does the drain pump work?
The pump pushes wastewater out through a hose, so you can drain into a sink, tub or standpipe that is higher than the machine's base. That is the main advantage over gravity-drain portables.
What do I need to hook it up?
A standard faucet with a threaded aerator for the inlet adapter, a nearby sink or drain for the hose, and a grounded outlet. Check that your faucet accepts the adapter before buying.
How much laundry fits in 2.4 cu. ft.?
Roughly a small-to-medium load: a few shirts, pants and underwear, or a set of bedding in separate loads. Overloading hurts spin results, so fill it loosely.
When is the best time to buy?
Portable washers tend to drop around back-to-school season and major sales events. Track the price history and buy when it sits near the low end of its recent range.
