Does the Outin Nano need to be plugged in to brew?

No. It runs on an internal battery, so you can pull a shot anywhere. You charge it between uses with a USB cable.

Can it use capsules as well as ground coffee?

Yes. It takes ground coffee in its reusable filter and also accepts capsules, so you can switch depending on what you carry.

It brews a small number of shots per charge, typically a few, depending on shot size and temperature. Plan to recharge on longer trips.
