Is the PetSafe ScoopFree Smart worth it?

It is worth it if you want weeks without scooping and value odor control. Budget for replacement trays, which are the main ongoing cost.

How often do I change the tray?

PetSafe says about once a month for a single-cat household. The app sends reminders based on how often your cat uses the box.

The box cleans without Wi-Fi, but app tracking and alerts require a 2.4 GHz network. It does not support 5 GHz.

What litter does it use?

It uses PetSafe's pre-filled crystal litter trays. You do not add regular clumping litter.

It measures 27.6 by 19.1 by 6.2 inches uncovered and comes with a hood. Check the footprint against your space before buying.

The best new price is $139.95 at Walmart as of November 5, 2026. Watch for tray bundle deals, since trays drive long-term cost.
