Our take on the Polaroid IS048 Waterproof Instant Sharing 16 MP Digital Portable Handheld Action Camera

The Polaroid IS048 is a small, cheap point-and-shoot action camera with a 16 MP sensor, a 2.4-inch screen and a waterproof body rated to 10 feet. It shoots 720p HD video and runs on two AAA batteries, so you can swap cells instead of charging. At $32 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range and is one of the cheapest waterproof cameras you can buy. It is a basic snapshot tool, not a GoPro rival.

Questions and answers

Is the Polaroid IS048 worth it?
At $32 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, it is worth it if you want a cheap waterproof camera for a child or the beach. If photo quality matters, a used phone or a pricier action camera is a better buy.
How waterproof is it?
Polaroid rates it to 10 feet underwater. That covers pool and snorkel use, but it is not a dive camera and the seals need to stay clean.
Does it need a memory card?
Yes. It takes a single microSD or microSDHC card, which is not included. Buy one separately before first use.
What batteries does it use?
Two AAA batteries. They are not included, and alkaline cells drain fast during video recording, so carry spares.
Can it shoot 1080p video?
No. Video tops out at 720p HD, and stills are JPEG at up to 16 MP.
When is it cheapest?
The $32 eBay price as of November 4, 2026 is already near the bottom of its range. Watch for bundle deals that include a memory card, since the card is a real added cost.
Where is the Polaroid IS048 Waterproof Instant Sharing 16 MP Digital Portable Handheld Action Camera cheapest?
