Our take on the PowerSmart 21" 170cc Self-Propelled Gas Lawn Mower

The PowerSmart 21-inch self-propelled gas mower is a walk-behind mower with a 170cc engine and a 21-inch rotary deck, aimed at homeowners who want a gas mower without paying name-brand prices. Self-propulsion takes the push out of slopes and long yards. The best new price is $319.99 at eBay as of November 5, 2026, with two stores listing it new. That is near the low end of what this model has sold for recently, so the current price is a fair one rather than a markdown.

  • Heavier and louder than a battery mower

Questions and answers

Is the PowerSmart 21-inch self-propelled mower worth it?
At $319.99 at eBay as of November 5, 2026, it is one of the cheaper self-propelled gas mowers you can buy new. It makes sense if budget matters more than brand support. If you want easy warranty service, a name brand is safer.
Does it have electric start?
The base 170cc model uses a pull-start recoil system. Check the specific listing if electric start matters to you, since some PowerSmart versions offer it.
What size yard is it suited to?
A 21-inch deck and self-propulsion suit typical suburban lots of up to about half an acre. Larger lawns are faster with a wider deck or a riding mower.
How does it compare with a battery mower?
Gas gives unlimited runtime and more torque in tall grass, but you deal with fuel, oil changes and noise. Battery mowers are quieter and need less upkeep but cost more up front and run on limited charge.
When is the price lowest?
Gas mowers usually discount at the end of the mowing season, in late summer and fall. The current $319.99 at eBay is already near the low end of its recent range.
What comes in the box?
Expect the mower, a grass bag and assembly hardware; some units ship with the handle partly folded. Confirm the included attachments on the listing before buying.
Where is the PowerSmart 21" 170cc Self-Propelled Gas Lawn Mower cheapest?
At eBay, for $319.99, as of our latest check.
