Is winter gas worth it over regular canister gas?

Yes if you cook below freezing, where standard butane mixes lose pressure and the flame weakens. In mild weather a cheaper three-season canister performs the same.

Will it fit my stove?

It uses a standard threaded (Lindal-type) valve, so it fits Primus canister stoves and most other screw-on backpacking burners. It will not fit pierceable or flat-profile stoves without an adapter.

How long does a 230g canister last?

Expect roughly 2 to 4 hours of full-output burn depending on the stove and conditions, or several days of boiling water for two people on short trips.

Can I refill the canister?

No. It is a single-use canister; recycle it where facilities accept gas canisters.

Our take on the Primus Winter Gas 230g

The Primus Winter Gas 230g is a propane-butane canister blended for cold-weather use, so stoves keep running when temperatures drop and standard butane mixes falter. It is a single 230g canister weighing about 0.86 lb with a 4.25-inch diameter, and it fits Primus and most other threaded canister stoves. The best new price is $9.73 at Scandinavian Outdoor as of November 8, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so there is little price competition to wait for.
