Our take on the Prusament PETG

Prusament PETG is a 1.75 mm PETG filament sold in 1 kg spools, made in-house by Prusa Research with a guaranteed diameter tolerance of ±0.02 mm. It is tougher and less brittle than PLA, resists higher temperatures, and shrinks little, so large prints rarely warp even without an enclosure. It prints around 250 °C nozzle and 80 °C bed on a textured or satin sheet. The best new price is $32.29 at Printed Solid as of November 4, 2026, with 5 stores pricing it new.

What reviewers say

Prusament PETG has a strong reputation among Prusa owners for consistent diameter and color, and for printing large parts without warping. Most complaints center on stringing and bridging, which users tune with retraction and temperature settings.

Pros
  • Consistent diameter and color from spool to spool
  • Reliable layer adhesion on functional parts
  • Low warping on large prints
Cons
  • Stringing that needs retraction tuning
  • Weak bridging
  • Occasional moisture problems if stored open

About the Prusament PETG

About PETGPETG is one of the most commonly used filaments. Its strength and durability make it an excellent choice for printing various mechanically-stressed parts, such as various holders, or clamps, for example. Due to its excellent layer-to-layer adhesion, PETG prints are ideal for indoor and outdoor waterproof applications. Furthermore, PETG is a tough material with good high-temperature resistance. The G in the acronym stands for a glycol-modified substance that is present during the manufacturing process. It modifies the properties of PET, so that it’s easier to print, less brittle, and clearer when printing with semi-transparent variants. PETG has a low thermal expansion, so even when printing big objects, and without an enclosure, it rarely lifts from the bed and warps. In addition to that, PETG is tougher and less brittle than PLA. It has a healthy amount of flex which can prevent parts from breaking under pressure. We use PETG to print parts for our printers! The new spool features a simple locking mechanism that makes disassembly quick and easy, allowing effortless refills. It also stays secure during filament drying, even at higher temperatures. And with its slimmer dimensions, the spool ensures compatibility with a wide range of multi-color and multi-material printing systems. Every new Prusament spool now comes with a fully rewritable NFC tag powered by the OpenPrintTag standard. It’s designed to work across brands and ecosystems. It is free to use, free to extend, and open for anyone to build upon. Most importantly, it works entirely offline. All essential data is stored directly on the tag. Your printer can recognize the spool instantly, with no dependence on cloud services or vendor lock-ins. The OpenPrintTag attached to your Prusament spool contains essential data about the material and can be read with the Prusa mobile app. Read more in our announcement article. Instead, we guarantee ±0.02mm precision and highly-consistent colors in our filaments. High Quality You Can Check YourselfWe are the only manufacturer that gives the option to inspect parameters of every filament spool. Scan a QR code on the spool to see all details online (check the sample spool). Beginners tips & tricksUnlike PLA or ABS, PETG tends to ooze a bit and may leave strings of plastic on your print. We suggest drying the filament before printing, as described here. If stringing still occurs, you may further counter it by increasing retraction and playing with hotend temperature, but if you use our filament presets in Prusa Slicer, we already did that for you and the amount of stringing should be minimal. Or, you can get rid of the strings by briefly blasting your finished prints with a heat gun. NotesThis PETG is made in-house by Prusa Research.1.75 mm filament is manufactured with precision of +- 0.02 mmBefore printing, make sure the surface of heatbed is clean as described in 3D Printing Handbook. If you choose a 2 kg spool, please download and print the 2kg spool holder as it will not fit the standard spool holder. To dry the filament, please follow the instructions in our article. Questions and answers

Is Prusament PETG worth the price over cheaper PETG?
The ±0.02 mm diameter guarantee and consistent colors are the main reasons to pay more. On a printer with a well-tuned profile, that shows up as fewer extrusion artifacts and repeatable results between spools.
What nozzle and bed temperatures does it need?
Prusa recommends a nozzle of 250 ±10 °C and a heatbed of 80 ±10 °C. A textured or satin steel sheet is the recommended surface.
Can I print it on a printer without an enclosure?
Yes. PETG has low thermal expansion, so large parts rarely lift from the bed or warp without an enclosure. Keep the room free of drafts for the best results.
What is in the box?
One 1 kg spool of 1.75 mm Prusament PETG with an NFC tag on the spool. Some listings also mention a sample spool.
When is it cheapest?
The best new price was $32.29 at Printed Solid as of November 4, 2026, with 5 stores pricing it new. Check the price history for dips below that.
Where is the Prusament PETG cheapest?
At Printed Solid, for $32.29, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Prusament PETG?
5 stores we checked sell it, including Printed Solid, Prusa Research, WoodArtSupply, Amazon, eBay.
