How much extra room does the expansion add?

Each cube goes from about 5 liters to 8.5 liters, roughly 3.5 liters more. The long large cube grows from 3 to 6 inches in height.

Will these fit in a standard carry-on?

Yes. The long large cube is 14 inches wide, which fits the length of most carry-on suitcases. Expanded, it takes more depth, so pack the bulky items flat.

Can I machine wash them?

No. REI lists spot cleaning only, so wipe them down and air dry. Machine washing can damage the DWR finish and the zippers.

What is the DWR finish?

It is a durable water repellent made without PFAS. It helps light spills and damp clothes bead off rather than soak in.

Is $26.93 a good price for the set?

It is the only new price listed, at REI as of November 7, 2026, so there is no lower store price to compare. At about $13.50 per cube, it sits in line with similar expandable sets.

What comes in the set?

Two cubes: one long large cube and one standard cube, in Jasper Green or Iron Oxide.

Where is the REI Co-op Expandable Packing Cube Set cheapest?
