Our take on the REI Co-op Women's Ruckpack 40 Pack Purple 1X - 4X

The REI Co-op Women's Ruckpack 40 is a 40-liter travel backpack with a women's-specific fit for 16-18 inch torsos, a padded 15-inch laptop sleeve, four exterior pockets and an included raincover. It works as a carry-on-sized travel pack or a large daypack, and the purple colorway is offered in 1X-4X sizing. At $159 at REI as of November 3, it sits at the top of its recent range, so waiting for a Co-op sale or member coupon is reasonable.

Is 40 liters carry-on size?: At 23 x 15 x 9.5 inches it fits most major US airline carry-on limits, but check your carrier's exact dimensions. Overpacking can push it past the limit.

Will it fit my torso?: It is built for 16-18 inch torsos with a women's-specific fit. Measure your torso and try it loaded before a trip if you are near either end of that range.
What comes in the box?: The pack and an included raincover. Straps and hipbelt are attached; there is no daypack or packing cube included.
When is it cheapest?: REI Co-op typically discounts packs during member sales and end-of-season clearances. Watch for coupons rather than buying at full price.
