Our take on the Rugs USA Nate Berkus Downing Plaid Wool Cozy Area Rug

The Nate Berkus Downing is a 3' x 5' handcrafted wool area rug in a plaid pattern, sold through Rugs USA. It is a flatweave with a low 0.2-inch pile, so it lies thin and flat and suits doorways, entryways and under furniture rather than plush lounging. The best new price is $103.99 at Walmart as of November 4, 2026, with three stores listing it new.

Pros
  • Handcrafted wool at a modest price
  • Flat 0.2-inch pile sits flush under doors and furniture
  • Plaid pattern adds color without a busy print
  • 3' x 5' size fits small rooms and hallways
  • Wool is naturally durable and resists crushing
Cons
  • Thin flatweave offers little cushioning underfoot
  • Wool flatweaves can shed and feel scratchy at first
  • Needs a rug pad to stay put on hard floors
  • Spot clean only; wool can be fussy to wash
  • Small 3' x 5' size limits it to tight spaces

Questions and answers

Is the Nate Berkus Downing rug worth it?
At $103.99 at Walmart as of November 4, 2026, it is a fair price for a handcrafted wool rug this size. Buy it for the look and flat profile, not for softness underfoot.
Is this rug soft enough for a living room?
It is a flatweave with a 0.2-inch pile, so it is thin and firm rather than plush. It suits entryways and under furniture better than a spot for bare feet.
Does it need a rug pad?
Yes. A thin flatweave like this slides on hard floors and its edges can curl, so a low-profile pad helps it stay flat and last longer.
How do I clean a wool flatweave rug?
Vacuum without a beater bar and blot spills right away with a damp cloth. For deeper cleaning, use a wool-safe cleaner or a professional; do not machine wash it.
What sizes does the Downing plaid rug come in?
This listing is the 3' x 5' rectangle. Rugs USA sells the Downing line in other sizes, so check the size before ordering if you need a runner or a larger room rug.
