Questions and answers

Is the Salewa Pedroc 2 PTX worth it?
Yes if you want a waterproof, grippy shoe for fast hikes in wet or mixed conditions. At $179.95 at Backcountry.com as of November 4, 2026, it sits in the normal range for a membrane-lined hiking shoe. If you mostly hike dry, warm trails, a non-waterproof shoe will be lighter and cooler.
How does it compare with the non-waterproof Pedroc?
The PTX version adds a PowerTex waterproof membrane, which keeps feet dry but cuts breathability and adds weight. The standard Pedroc is lighter and cooler for dry weather. Choose the PTX if rain and wet ground are common on your hikes.
Is it waterproof enough for heavy rain?
The PowerTex membrane and suede upper handle rain, puddles and wet grass well. In sustained heavy rain, water can still enter at the collar and through the mesh areas over a long day. Treat the suede to keep it water-repellent.
How does the sizing run?
Salewa shoes generally fit true to size with a slightly wider forefoot. Try them with the socks you hike in, and size up half a size if you wear thick socks or have wide feet.
What is the weight per shoe?
Each shoe weighs about 450 g, which is on the heavy side for a speed hiking shoe. The waterproof membrane and suede upper account for much of that weight.
When is the best time to buy?
Prices on hiking shoes tend to drop at end of season and around major sales events. Check the price history on this page to see whether $179.95 at Backcountry.com is below the recent range before you buy.
Where is the Salewa Pedroc 2 PTX Men's Shoes cheapest?
At Backcountry.com, for $179.95, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the Salewa Pedroc 2 PTX Men's Shoes?
Rated 4.8 out of 5 from 98 ratings.
Where can I buy the Salewa Pedroc 2 PTX Men's Shoes?
